"Will nothing end the indomitable tyranny that is CityVille?" cried the legions of social game developers as they watched Zynga's behemoth top the Facebook game charts for the fourth consecutive month. Inside Social Games has posted the Top 25 Facebook games for April 2011, thanks to AppData. Is anyone surprised that Zynga holds seven of the top 10 spots including
CityVille at the top once again? Can I move on then? Thanks.
If you hadn't noticed, Inside Social Games has change how it tracks the Top 25: Now the list is separated into two for MAU and DAU, or monthly players and daily players, because of the increasing importance of daily players to social game developers. (And something PopCap has been crying about for awhile.)
So, the most interesting changes on the MAU end of things start with Bejeweled Blitz climbing three spots to number seven thanks to a 2.7 million boost in monthly players. Then, you'll notice that LOLapps snuck into the Top 10 this month just under PopCap with Ravenwood Fair in eighth place. The game has been on a steady climb since the beginning of the year, and this month Ravenwood Fair sees 591 thousand more faces.
There's only rookie addition to the Top 25 Facebook games this month: Zuma Blitz, one our personal favorites for 2010. The game enters the chart at 23rd place. And check out the amount of smaller games studios that moved up the ladder, while Playdom is nowhere to be found even after releasing a new game with another one the way. Hopefully, we'll see their rise on the monthly charts in May.
