We’re 11 days into the new year, but there are still some things left to learn from 2011. HootSuite, the popular Twitter dashboard, has put together an infographic of the top brands, topics, hashtags, “in memorium” and holiday topics on Twitter in the past year.
Using its newly purchased service What the Trend, Hootsuite takes a business approach to 2011: the top 15 businesses on Twitter, to be exact.
There are some pretty obvious members on this tweet elite list, like Twitter itself taking top spot, Google in the number two position and Facebook rounding out the top three.
However, as with most of these year end lists, some of the top 15 businesses on Twitter in the past year are unexpected. MySpace is number seven on the list, for instance.
The list was created by using an algorithm that ranked each business based on the rank and duration it spent on the top 10 trending topics.
